Emily’s work experience in the horse industry began at age 4 riding alongside her dad, a farrier. She did what curious little girls do when they work with their fathers — got her pinky stuck in the pritchel hole of an anvil (thank goodness for WD-40), nailed shoes to saw horses, got in trouble for taking tools from the truck and, on the way home, fell asleep in the cab.

She spent lots of time at farrier clinics and competitions watching her dad compete and helping her mom work. She even crossed paths with Burney Chapman, who developed the heart bar; Bob Pethick, a five-time member of the American Farrier's Team; Craig Trnka, 10-time member of the AFT; and Grant Moon, one of the world’s best blacksmiths.

After graduating from Clemson University and teaching briefly in South Carolina’s public school system, Emily returned to Monetta and the family business her mom, Sarah, founded in 1986.

Emily dedicates many of her work hours to customer service, an area of business Monetta Farrier Specialties emphasizes.

“We work with interesting people from lots of different backgrounds. For instance, we have a customer who is a surgeon and shoes horses for a hobby and polo players who shoe their own.”

She also leads the store’s advertising and marketing efforts, edits the shop’s newsletter, the Monetta Letter, serves as secretary of the S.C. Farrier’s Association and is on the Farrier Industry Association’s board of directors.

Emily loves Clemson football and the film, “The Man from Snowy River”. She likes baking cookies and stewing greens and peas with ham hocks. In the summer, she spends time at the lake on her husband William’s boat and in the winter, she hunts … anywhere her dad takes her. Her gun is worth nearly more than her car. Her cookware is worth more than her most expensive pair of shoes.
